Amanda Ellison, PhD
As a physiologist with a PhD in neuroscience, Professor Amanda Ellison is highly experienced in understanding behavior through the lens of the brain, the body, and the environment. This has informed her approach to psychological challenges relating to brain injury, pain, addiction, etc., taking into account the complex interaction between biological, psychosocial, economic, environmental, and other influences.
As Executive Director of the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing at Durham University, Prof Ellison supports the development of transdisciplinary teams to address health challenges across multiple scales, through the experience of the individual, their families and healthcare team, in addition to translating findings to inform improvements in understanding and practice across these domains.
Prof Ellison has also published two popular science books (Getting your Head Around the Brain, 2012 Palgrave Macmillan; Splitting; The Inside Story on Headaches, 2020 GreenTree Bloomsbury).
